YOUR CUP OF THIS WEEK’S STRONGEST MARKETING TIP
There is a phrase our CEO, Michael, uses almost every day and that phrase is sloppy success. In essence it simply means to “ship it.” Launch whatever you are trying to launch, take the website live and fix it later, put out the new dish at your restaurant and get feedback. Imperfect action will trump no action all day, every day.The only caveat is this: sloppy cannot mean horrible, it simply means that it’s not 100 percent perfect. But you would feel OK with someone buying, experiencing or seeing whatever it is you are presenting.Case in point. Michael helped a friend of his late last night (like 9:30 p.m.) set up an email campaign. He has been struggling with getting it going so they worked together and set up every piece in about two hours.Michael asked what time his friend was going to send the email and held him accountable for sending it out.Thirty minutes before the time they agreed on, Michael’s friend said, “the email isn’t great, the landing page isn’t perfect”… Michael’s reply was: ship it. Sloppy success, my friend, and guess what, in two hours he already has a lead.Ship it, get feedback and improve thereafter.
WHAT SHOULD BE ON YOUR READING MENU OVER THE WEEKEND
The E-Myth Revisited
There are 14 books in Michael’s top “favorites.” In order to make it into his favorites the book has to have a few criteria:
Timeless material that can be used forever
Be applicable no matter the type of business or industry
A book Michael would read over and over again
The E-Myth series by Michael Gerber is top notch. Michael reads the book in Q2 of every single year to refresh his brain and to essentially center him a bit. The core concept of the book is that most business owners are doers, or technicians and working in there business. If you want to build a business that can outlast you or the one that can scale, you need to shift from being the core technician to the business owner working on your business rather than in it.A great read with actionable strategies.

The best of….?
Michael follows many other marketing people, personal development experts and general business thought leaders. Like many other marketers, Michael is a Seth Godin fan.Seth Godin’s recent post on “forced rankings” and the perceptions they create in the marketplace caught Michael’s attention. As consumers, we enjoy seeing things like “voted best of ______” but whether you realized it or not, most of the organizations that put on these rankings are doing it to make a buck and the validity if a savvy consumer looks into it is questionable. To stand the test of the time, true authentic testimonials, case studies and endorsements will serve your business far better than any artificial best of rankings. Here is his blog to read more.
POWERFUL TOOL TO MAKE YOUR MARKETING A PIECE OF CAKE
There are only a handful of tools I use on a daily basis, this chrome extension is one of my favorite plugins.UseLoom allows you to quickly record a video showing your screen, your screen and camera, or just your camera. It is far easier to send a quick video than to type a five page email.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“It’s not in the dreaming, it’s in the doing.”-Mark Cuban, Owner of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks
NO JOKE FUN FACT
The only thing we care about (from a metric standpoint) are results. Leads that turn into sales. Facebook likes are great, new web traffic is awesome, more calls are good, but we are a results driven agency. The only way we continue to grow and will stand the test of time is to drive our members consistent results month after month after month.
